11:30 am to 12:30 pm – The Recovery-Oriented Alberta Model of Care “Centre of Recovery Excellence”

About this session

There is considerable debate on approaches to drug and addiction policy across the country. Evaluating evidence and driving robust research and evaluation is essential for advancing good policy and quality care. There are however gaps in the scientific evidence and limitations on how progress is defined and measured that contribute to this ongoing debate. To address this, Alberta is launching a Centre of Recovery Excellence (CoRE) as a single site of expertise to generate new and expanded evidence on mental health and addiction programs and services.

The centre will add to the knowledge base, as well as act as an evaluation partner for interventions that could improve recovery outcomes for individuals and communities. It will lead research and offer new insights into what works, and how best to guide and support service providers and frontline staff to help clients on their recovery journey.

The Government of Alberta has been implementing a recovery-oriented system of care to help save lives and support Albertans pursuing long-term recovery with addiction or mental health challenges through the health, justice, and social service systems and as part of this, has an ambitious mission for the Centre of Recovery Excellence, which will launch in 2024.

This session will outline the design principles of the centre, discuss the gaps it will address, and how it will add value to the mental health and addiction systems for years to come.
