September 24th Day Two – Macleod Hall A & B South Building 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM

Workplace Wellness and the Law, through the legislation lens

Gina Savoie

Session Description

The workplace often provides positive impacts to mental health, including, a sense of purpose, routine, personal growth and development, and opportunities for support and social connection. Unfortunately, that same environment may also expose an individual to traumatic or other distressing events which may have a negative impact on mental health and may result in a psychological injury. This presentation aims to enhance understanding of the legislation, policy, and supports available for recovery and return to work through the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta (WCB) for those who have experienced a work-related psychological injury.

Learning Objectives

  • Enhance understanding of what constitutes a work-related psychological injury and the legislative and policy framework that governs the acceptance of and management of psychological injury claims.
  • Describe the steps involved to navigate the claims process from initial report, through claim adjudication, to ongoing care planning and ultimately return to work.
  • Explore how the care team including the claim owner, employer, treatment providers and injured worker collaborate to promote successful recovery and return-to-work.
