Impact of Medical Monitoring on Workplace Health & Safety
Dr Jenny Melamed
Session Description
Recovery from addiction involves retraining the brain to avoid automatic, unhealthy responses formed during active use. Sustained recovery requires combining healthy thinking with motivation, emotional investment, and spiritual development. Since relapse is common after initial treatment, aftercare and monitoring—especially medical monitoring—are essential. For safety-sensitive workers, medical monitoring is a key part of behavioural management programs and is critical to long-term recovery success.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the importance of medical monitoring in relapse prevention for safety-sensitive workers, and how these elements support long-term success in recovery.
- Understand the components of a comprehensive medical monitoring program.
- Learn about advances in medical monitoring including PEth testing and oral fluid testing.
