Cannabis and Cannabis Products

Session Description:

This presentation will address some key aspect around using cannabis and cannabis products. Taking cannabidiol as an example, we will explore pertinent recent evidence on the effectiveness for treating painful conditions, product composition and labelling issues, as well as adverse effects and safety concerns as seen in clinical trials and with recreational use outside of a trial context. We will consider what this means for fitness for work

BIO

Sebastian Straube holds degrees in Medicine and Physiological Sciences from the University of Oxford, where he also did his DPhil (PhD). After clinical work and research at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals, he joined the University Medical Center Göttingen (Germany). There, he completed his Habilitation (German postdoctoral qualification) and his postgraduate training in Occupational Medicine. Dr. Straube took up his current post in the Division of Preventive Medicine of the University of Alberta’s Department of Medicine in 2014. He was appointed as Division Director for Preventive Medicine in 2016 and promoted to Full Professor in 2019. Dr. Straube has also been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health since 2015. He is the Director of the Foundation Course in Occupational Medicine, which teaches Occupational Medicine to physicians in Canada and the Middle East. Dr. Straube’s research is focused on information synthesis in Occupational Medicine and beyond.
