Session Description:
Earlier this year, Mental Health and Addiction expanded to include the homelessness and housing supports portfolio – a strategic move by Alberta’s government to better align emergency shelter and housing support services with the Alberta Recovery Model. As a key first step, the Ministry is leading a collaborative review of these systems – and the challenges they are facing – with input from recovery experts and emergency shelter and housing support providers from across the province. The recommendations that come from this review will help to firmly embed emergency shelter and housing supports into Alberta’s recovery-oriented system of care.
Bio:
Coreen Everington is Assistant Deputy Minister of the Recovery Programs Division within Alberta’s Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction and has been leading many initiatives to support the Alberta government’s commitment to increase access to recovery oriented mental health and addiction care for Albertans since 2019.
Over the past 25+ years, Coreen has provided frontline mental health and social services as a Registered Social Worker to women and families escaping abuse, students, young adults, and veterans. Over the past 12 years, Coreen has worked in senior management positions with Indigenous Services Canada, Alberta Health and now Mental Health and Addiction, developing and implementing mental health and addiction related policy. Coreen is the ADM lead for aligning the shelter and housing supports services with the Alberta Recovery Model.
